Hamilton, Bermuda, April 13, 2007. The Association of Bermuda International Companies (ABIC), today said it has held a productive meeting with Government to discuss Premier Dr. Ewart Brown´s recent proposals for traffic reform, some of which had caused great concern to it´s members and their employees.

On April 5, the Premier announced that among other car ownership restrictions, any business which has more than 10 non-Bermudian employees will have car ownership restrictions. Any business which has more than 10 non-Bermudian employees will have car ownership for those non-Bermudians restricted.

ABIC has agreed to work with the Government and other business organizations, both local and in the International Business sector, to find creative solutions to traffic congestion throughout the island, but particularly in Hamilton and more specifically within the rush-hour periods.

“The Transport Reform proposals highlight the need for collective action from all sections of the community to help solve the problems of traffic congestion in the city,” said ABIC Chairman David Ezekiel. “We will, along with other industry bodies, work with our members to find solutions, and will shortly be contacting our members with proposals as to how we move forward on this issue.”

“Based on our meeting, we are confident that, by working in partnership with Government, we will identify solutions that will address this issue in a timely manner and avoid the creation of a long-term problem for the island,” he added.
