ABIC Announces International Companies Education Awards Recipients for 2004

The Association of Bermuda International Companies (ABIC) today held a luncheon to formally announce this year’s education award winners.

Peter Everson, ABIC Director and Chamber of the Commerce Vice President, presided over the luncheon for 23 scholarship winners. Guest speaker was Michael Morrison, Vice Chairman of Allied World Assurance Cmpany, Ltd.

The International Companies Education Awards (“ICEA”) program is the largest and most broadly supported scholarship program in Bermuda. The program is entering its 25th year, and more than 60 international companies operating in Bermuda provide substantial financial support for the program each year. In the past six years alone, international businesses have contributed over $2 million to the ICEA program providing financial assistance to approximately 125 Bermudian students.

The number of scholarships awarded this year was 23 and a total of $480,000 was raised for the program. ABIC is grateful to all the international companies that donated to this year´s campaign, especially those who generously sponsored the Corporate Named Awards.

The program provides scholarships to Bermudian students pursuing higher education at accredited four-year, degree-granting colleges and universities in studies connected primarily to international business or supportive of Bermuda’s infrastructure that is necessary for the efficient functioning of international business in Bermuda.

Currently, the award to each recipient is $10,000 per year for a two-year period.

ABIC, the voice of international business, represents more than 130 international companies incorporated in Bermuda.
