ABIC Update to Members Regarding Work Permit Term Limits & Good Corporate Citizen Status

At a recent meeting with the Minister of Labour & Home Affairs it was suggested that I write to you on the above topic.

Whilst the initial anxiety and concern over the Term Limits policy has somewhat abated due to the exemptions proposed by the new Minister, this policy is still in place for non-exempt staff members and the first implementation date is April 1, 2007.

This policy will impact our membership in many different ways, but you should also be aware that those companies who have received accreditation as Good Corporate Citizens (´GCC´) will be viewed favourably in any discussions or negotiations on the Term Limits issue. I would thus highly recommend, both for this specific reason and also simply in the interests of good practice, that you turn your attention as to whether your company should be applying for GCC status. We would clearly recommend that you do, but once again this is an issue for each member to decide given their own unique circumstances.

Yours sincerely,
David Ezekiel
Chairman
