The Association of Bermuda International Companies (ABIC) has announced that Roy Fellowes will chair its Education Awards Committee, which administers the largest and most broadly supported scholarship program in Bermuda.
Mr. Fellowes, of HSBC Insurance Solutions (Bermuda) Limited, succeeded David Holland of Fidelity International as chairman of the ABIC Education Awards (“ABICEA”) committee, which is now giving over $500,000 in scholarships each year to Bermudian students pursuing post-secondary education at overseas universities.
“My goals are to continue the good work of David Holland and other previous Chairmen, and to raise the awareness and the profile of the ABICEA, both in schools and with the general public,” said Mr. Fellowes.
“Many people in Bermuda are simply unaware of the significant contribution international companies are making through ABIC to support young Bermudians in their first two years of university. Even some ABIC members are surprised at the size of total scholarship amounts involved.”
The ABICEA program provides two-year scholarships of $15,000 per year to Bermudian students pursuing higher education at accredited four-year, degree-granting colleges and universities in studies connected primarily to international business or supportive of Bermuda’s infrastructure that is necessary for the efficient functioning of international business in Bermuda.
“Young Bermudians, particularly those at Government schools, need to know that ABIC scholarship opportunities are open to everyone and understand the process for applying. Successful applicants are interviewed and scholarships are awarded based on academic and personal achievements, combined with a means test,” said Mr. Fellowes.
The deadline for applications for the ABICEA is March 31. Applications are available online or by contacting Fiona Lines at 295-8932 for further information.
ABIC, the voice of International Business, represents more than 130 international companies located in Bermuda.
